How To Measure a Shark:

Sharks are usually measured in at least four places. Look at the Shark Anatomy and Measurement Chart to see exactly where these measurements are taken. Then record this data on your Original Shark Tagging Worksheet or your Second Shark Tagging Worksheet. If your shark can be measured, measure the Total Length only.

PCL (pre-caudal length): Measures from the nose to the beginning of the tail.

FL (fork length): Measures from the nose to the end of the fork or "V" of the tail.

TL (total length): Measures from the nose to the top tip of the tail.

STL (stretch total length): Measures from the nose to the top tip of the tail bent down.
